Surveillance Tech

As the sole surveillance tech at a casino, I was responsible for installing and maintaining all the equipment. This included cameras, monitors, recorders, the switch system, alarms, UPS, and anything else that basically nobody else wanted to fix. In addition to installing new, moving existing, and keeping everything clean and running, I was responsible for producing training materials for the operators.

Actual Comments from the holder of this Actual Career

How do you feel about this Actual Career?
The job was great, when I was allowed to do it correctly. The casino was full of petty politics, laws and regulations enforced with strict inconsistency, and small minded individuals. Additionally, the place was constantly filled with smoke. So, the job was great, fixing things and playing with expensive toys, but the environment was horrible.

Was your degree helpful in your career field?
The degree was close enough to what they wanted to help land the job.

In your opinion, what kind of education did you need to get this career?
You just need modicum of organization, the ability to understand and use technology, read user manuals, and the ability to put up with petty politics and mean spirited people.

Experience, Skills, Specialized Training, Licenses, or Certifications:
I had no licenses, but I found out later that the state requires a license to repair and service video equipment. I never asked, and no one ever checked.

Just one more thing….
